The future is bright! At least when it comes to adult gaming. The Austrian game company ThriXXX, famous for its interactive Sex Simulators, released a demo video showing one of its adult games being controlled by the 3D Motion Controller ‘Kinect’.

As you can imagine, Microsoft was eager to release an official statement in which the company disassociating itself from the porn game and bashing all hopes for a Xbox 360 release of the Sex-Sim. The statement read: “This isn’t the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won’t be the last. Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use. Xbox is a family friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect.”
Honestly, what else could you expect of these prude buggers?

BUT… thanks to recent events in the Kinect Hacker community and the Open Sourcing of device drivers, that allowed access to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 motion-sensor under Windows 7 and thus generated the possibility for the company’s to test their Sex Simulator under Kinect control. Hackers unlocked Kinect’s 3D camera for various motion-control demos shortly after the device hit the market in early November 2010. Someone even managed to get it working under Windows 7 just days after its release, resulting in Microsoft squirming for explanation who first denied, then contritely accepted their existence. Tough shit Microsoft, 1:0 for open source!

Brad Abrams, vice president of business development for ThriXXX, admitted that there could be an problem with Microsoft’s license agreement but also said ThriXXX may be able to work around the issue with another company that provides the core technology for Kinect.
No wonder the news spread quickly and sudden publicity even brought ThriXXX’s servers down. Given the strong interest expressed since the release of the demo video Abrams said the company expects to release a working version of the demo technology in April or May 2011.

So let’s hope that this is just the beginning! According to Kyle Machulis, a software engineer and sex tech expert, “Every single bit of technology has been used for sex at some point or another, and as we check out the history of technology, usually it’s at the advent of the technology that this happens. The Gutenberg printing press printed bibles but it also printed erotica.”
